ROBIN CHOOSES BURUNDI BUTIHINDA

On the southeastern slope of the Louwberg in Maastricht lies the oldest wine estate in the Netherlands. The Apostelhoeve is renowned in the international wine industry. With a vast twenty-hectare estate, the Maastricht vineyard produces six dry white wines and two sparkling wines.

The Apostelhoeve, like Blanche Dael, is a true family business. In 1970, grandfather Hugo Hulst planted the first vines. After son Mathieu took over many years ago, the reins have now been passed to grandsons Robin (seen in the photo) and Gilbert. It is evident during the grape harvest period that wine connoisseur Robin is a true coffee lover. "Right after summer, we harvest our grapes. In the early morning, I even bring my thermos flask filled with freshly brewed Blanche Dael coffee to the vineyard."

Robin particularly enjoys the new Café Unique coffee line. The single origin coffee varieties all come from one region with traceable origins. "The exciting thing about these single origin coffees is that, just like with our wine, the characteristic flavor profiles are determined by the region of origin." The Apostelhoeve is located in the South Limburg region. The soil mainly consists of gravel and marl, which is excellent for growing Pinot Gris, Riesling, Auxerrois, and Müller-Thurgau grapes. With these grape varieties, the vineyard produces crisp white wines.

What is Robin's favorite Café Unique? "The Burundi Butihinda! Because this coffee is exceptionally fruity, and I love its floral aroma."
